Once again, to finish up on last night first…dinner was in a great little fish restaurant at the Marina in Savona. You can see how spectacular the light was from the photo. The tartare of two fish and shrimp with a lemon sauce was delicious as was the black and white linguine with sea bass. The 2013 Costadevigne Seiana from our local region of Liguria was amazing value and the bone china coffee set was a lovely touch! The star of the evening, however, was “La Coppa della Nonna Ubriaca” which translates as “Drunken Grandma’s Cup”. Sure enough it was Tiramisu swimming in amaretto and just delicious!
You can see that John’s room got completely taken over by bikes and [clean] washing…the price for having the largest room for the night! John has been allowed to have his own room every evening (and will continue to be allowed that) as a massive “thank you” for being the support driver, without whom the trip would not have been possible, and because the room he is in literally reverberates from his snoring!! It was an easy decision!
The breakfast highlight was John’s delight at the vat of Nutella and then off we set for Genova, along the coast road, and then on to Chiavari for the night. The first stretch along the coast was very pretty if chock-a-block with beach-going pedestrians! The cycle path was great and even had tunnels specially for us! Lunch in Genova consisted solely of a bucket of fabulous gelato each and then off to do the lumpy afternoon section; past Portofino, through Rapallo and up to the amazing newly-built house in Chiavari that is home for the night. We have spectacular views over the marina and have decided to eat in tonight and just enjoy it…Gordon Ramsay’s steak with butter, garlic and thyme, veg and a mixed salad. All very easy and tasty!
A very different day to our [event-filled] ride of yesterday but truly beautiful coastal views, plenty of ascent at the back end and not a single lost rider among us!!
