La Dolce Vita!

Desserts all round today at lunch as the team sheltered from teeming rain! Any excuse….! The owner of the establishment was also keen to add a little something to the water bottles!

So they cycled and cycled and it rained…..they took shelter and ate and ate….fabulous! La Dolce Vita!

Here are some bullet points from today.
1. All contrasting conditions with tranquil cycle paths next to endless (and we mean endless) Adriatic beaches, bumper to bumper traffic with mad Italian drivers, 26mph sections on good roads and rain-sodden climbing with lightening bolts.
2. We saw the Villino Matricardi built in 1913 in the Art Nouveau style. 3. Lunchtime swim for Paul and Richard W followed by lunch when the rain storms came scattering diners to avoid the water flooding. A beautiful rainbow followed.
3. Dinner in Ancona at a recommended fish restaurant which turned out to be a real local favorite with fresh fish in a packed restaurant. Washed down by local Rossi Piceno wine. Another long day - and tomorrow is another 100 mile ride.

Some additions: - we took it so easy in the morning, ambling alongside the beaches, that the afternoon’s hills came as a bit of a shock: not a completely easy day after all! - Some of the downhills were a bit hairy with wet roads, potholes and cars/trucks coming past at a frighteningly close distance. Luckily we avoided most of the heavy rain throughout the day and saw some sun as we approached Ancona.
